Top 10 Tallest Buildings in ASEAN

Do you know that ASEAN is also home to the world's tallest buildings? In our region the most active skyscraper countries are Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia.There are high-rise buildings that are under construction in the aforementioned countries except Singapore. Once completed, these buildings will surpass some of the current and completed skyscrapers on record. But let's take a look at the top 10 tallest buildings that are officially complete and open.

This list includes skyscrapers which are at least 250 m (820 ft) tall.

1. Petronas Twin Towers were once the tallest buildings in the world from 1998-2004. The buildings are a landmark of Malaysia, towering the Kuala Lumpur skyline at 452 m (1,483 ft). Both have 88 floors and were completed in 1998.


2. Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower (or Keangnam Landmark 72) is the tallest structure in Vietnam completed in 2011. It stands at 345 m (1,132 feet). It is located in Pham Hung Boulevard in Hanoi, the country's capital city. With its total floor area of 609,673 m2, Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower is ranked 5th as the largest floor area of a single building in the world. 


3. Menara Telekom was completed in 2001. However, it took two more years for its official opening. It stands at 310 m (1,017 ft) tall with 55 floors, the second tallest building in Malaysia after the Petronas Twin Towers. Its shape is a representation of a sprouting bamboo shoot.


4. Baiyoke Tower II is the tallest building in Thailand, towering the capital city Bangkok skyline at 304 m (997 ft). The building comprises the Baiyoke Sky Hotel, the tallest hotel in Southeast Asia and the seventh-tallest all-hotel structure in the world.



5. One Raffles Placeformerly UOB Center (1986), UOB Plaza One (1992) and Republic Plaza (1996) are three of Lion City's tallest skyscrapers sharing the title. UOB Center which was completed in 1986, was the tallest building outside North America. The three buildings stand proudly at 280 m (919 ft) with 66 floors each.

6. Bitexco Financial Tower is located in Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. It has a height of 262.5 m (861 ft), making it the 124th tallest building in the world. It used to be the tallest structure in Vietnam from 2010-2011 until Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower was completed in 2011.


7. Menara Carigali is a 58-storey skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Standing at 267 m (876 ft), Carigali tower is the 6th tallest building in ASEAN, and the third tallest in Malaysia after the Petronas Towers and Menara Telekom. The structure has 60 floors and was completed in 2012.


8. Completed just this year, 2 September 2014, Lotte Center Hanoi has 65 floors and stands at 267 m (876 ft) tall. It is the third tallest building in Vietnam after Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower in Hanoi and Bitexco Financial Tower in Ho Chi Minh City. The building features a modern architecture style designed by Callison, an American company.


9. Located on the banks of Chao Phraya River, "The River" is Thailand's second tallest building after Baiyoke Tower II. It was completed in 2012, standing at 265 m (871 ft).




10. Wisma 46 is one of the tallest buildings in Indonesia. It was completed in 1996 with 52 floors. It can be seen clearly in Jakarta's skyline as it towers at 262 m (859 ft) tall.

  2. Yay! I've been to two of these towers. I didn't know that the PBCom tower is that high! How many floors are there in the building?
